India’s Top 20 Non IIT Engineering Colleges

Every year some news magazines like India Today, OutLook and DataQuest devotes a full edition to compile a list of India's top 10 engineering colleges. Though some doubts are always raised over the methodoligies followed while making these lists and questions are raised of how come suddenly BITS Pilani goes out from Top 10 when previous year it ranked 2nd ! or how Netaji Subhash Institute of technology ranked higher than BITS Pilani (DataQuest rating 2005)

Anyway in every list, obviously all the 7 IIT's features as Top engineering Colleges in India so people don't get to know more about other Top colleges. So I have decided to put down a list of Top 20 Non IIT Engineering Colleges. This list is purely on my personal experience .

I am also an engineer, with 4000 something rank in JEE :) but had to opt for another Institute(which is in Top 10 here) as my rank was too low and I wasn't getting anything good but I had got Good rank in AIEEE so went for that institute. Anyway I feels I can make a better list than these India Today or Outlook as I have "seen" what these have not seen.

Before I put this list, let me tell you, I feels almost all the Top NIT's, BITS Pilani, IIIT Hyderabad, DCE are fairly equaly and there is not much difference betwen them. I feels in that case, what branch you are getting becomes very important. I mean getting into CSE of Thapar is anytime better than getting into Civil of IT BHU or Mechanical of Bits Pilani. If you disagree with this than pleaes tell me as in the past 5-6 years alot has changed in India and what current student thinks :)

1. IT BHU
2. Bits Pilani
3. NIT Trichy
4. IIIT Hyderabad
5. NIT Warangal
6. Delhi College of Engineering
7. Thapar Institute of Engg & Technology
8. Anna University
9. NIT Suratkal
10. NIT Calicut
11. MNNIT, Allahabad
12. PEC, Chandigadh
13. IIIT, Allahabad (Please also read this though)
14. BIT Mesra
15. NIT Rourkela
16. NIT Kurukshetra

The Last 4 can be filled with any of these options -

* Jadavpur University
* ISM, Dhanbad
* Harcourt Butler Technological Institute
* Dhirubhai Ambani IICT
And of the remaining NIT's. All of them are good as they get lot of funds from government so you are always going to get good infrastrucutre at very cheap Fees.

As I had said earlier, if you feel the list need some moderation or I have forgot some college(I know I have) than please tell me. You can also check this list of India's Top NIT colleges currently.
